YSB Receives
Grant for Early Childhood Intervention Program
YSB has
received a $100,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services
Division of Mental Health Child and Adolescent Services to provide early
intervention services to four Crystal Lake Daycare Centers. YSB is one of five agencies
to receive this grant in Illinois and the only
agency selected in DHS Region II covering Northern
Illinois. The grant addresses a need to provide social/emotional
screening for children ages 3 to 5. YSB will provide screening and therapy to
children with social or emotional problems and educational services, consultation
and support to parents and child care providers. The benefits for the child,
family and childcare provider will be many. Helping young children early can
head off more serious problems later. The needs of the child will be addressed
through therapy and intervention strategies, and the day care providers and
parents will receive education, consultation and training services. All this
will be flexible to occur in the home, the daycare center, or another location.
The
daycare centers include Bright Horizons, Friendship House, Lilliput Island Day
Care, and Children’s Learning
Center. The grant
received wide support from area social service agencies. It fills a gap
identified by the Family CARE grant for 3 to 5 year olds, and will increase the
community capacity to serve young children and their parents. The results will
be seen in improvements in child care, improved resiliency in the child and
healthier families.
YSB is a
not-for-profit organization that has been caring for children and families for
30 years by providing affordable counseling and prevention services to the
community. YSB is located at 101
South Jefferson Street in Woodstock.
