Helpful Homework Hints for Parents

Parent involvement is a key part of our children doing well in school. As busy as parents are today it is important to have set rules and guidelines for children to follow. If children know what is expected of them this can alleviate stress for both the child and the parent. By setting limits around your child's homework you are letting them know that it is important and essential to their education.
Allow kids some time after school to unwind before getting started. You may want to decide to let your child have a snack before homework but not allow them to engage in any recreational activity until homework is done. This can help with students who tend to stall and make excuses to do their homework at the last minute.

- Set a regular time each day for homework.
- Have all the necessities for homework in one spot such as paper, pencils, books etc.
- Have a quiet clean space just for homework and keep all school work there.
- Discourage distractions, including TV and music during study time.
- Allow study breaks in intervals.
- Be available to answer questions or help quiz your child but keep homework as his/her responsibility to complete.
- Spot-check homework when completed, but do not correct assignments unless the teacher has asked you.
- Read any comments the teacher has made on returned assignments.
- If homework problems arise, contact the teacher for clarification.anatomically correct language to describe body parts and sexual functions.
Sometimes doing homework after dinner can not be avoided due to extra curricular activities the child is involved with. In that case it is best to encourage the student to manage his/her free time and utilize any study halls. Always remind your child that his/her academics come before extra curricular and recreational activities.
Lastly, it is always important to praise your child for homework done to the best of his/her ability.
