9 year old donates birthday presents to Youth Service Bureau (YSB)
9 year old Megan Shaver had a birthday party that was different than most. Instead of asking for presents for herself, she asked for gifts for the children that go to the Youth Service Bureau. A call was made to YSB before her birthday asking what kind of things the children of YSB may like. At her birthday party the children were told about YSB and what the agency did to help children. The gifts were opened and later delivered to YSB. The gifts included board games, play-doh kits, jump ropes, card games, toddler toys and dolls. Mrs. Shaver said that they were so blessed they wanted to do something for someone else and share the blessing.
The gifts will go to the YSB managed Lakewood Neighborhood Resource Center that serves youth ages 4 through 15. The center is a safe place for youth of the Lakewood Apartment Complex in Woodstock to go to socialize, learn life skills, read, and attend special programs. Some of the gifts will also go to the T.A.M.I. (Teenage Mothers Initiative) program at YSB, for their young children. This free program helps teenage parents with prenatal information, parenting education and support. For more information on the Lakewood Neighborhood Resource Center or T.A.M.I. call YSB at 815-338-7360. YSB appreciates this act of generosity and the idea of children helping other children.
YSB is a not-for-profit organization that has been caring for children and families for 30 years by providing affordable counseling and prevention services to the community. YSB is located at 101 South Jefferson Street in Woodstock. For more information visit the YSB web site at www.ysb4kids.org, or call 815.338.7360.
