YSB Awarded $6,000 Grant from Brake Parts Inc.

The Youth Service Bureau (YSB) of Woodstock has received a $6,000 grant from Brake Parts Inc., of McHenry. Brake Parts Inc. is a division of the Dana Corporation. The grant was awarded through the Dana Foundation that seeks to support area organizations that help the community and to recognize the hard work they do. This donation is for mentoring scholarships and will provide two children with a mentor.

The Mentoring Program at YSB provides children ages 4 to 17 with an adult role model to work with in order to develop to their fullest potential. The mentors work as part of a treatment team including therapists, school personnel and case managers for youth currently in community based counseling programs. They work one on one with the child on therapeutic goals like self-esteem, social interaction skills, and problem solving.

The child is mentored for 6 to 12 months.  Medicaid funds children in the program, however, there are children that do not have Medicaid and need mentors. The program now has 58 children in it.

YSB mentors are trained by YSB Therapists to work on specific therapeutic goals with each child. The mentor spends time with the child weekly for 6 to 12 months.  YSB is always looking for qualified mentors. They must be 21 years of age, pass a criminal background check, and want to help children. Experience with children is preferred. The mentors are paid $15.75 an hour. To become a mentor please contact YSB at 815.338.7360.

YSB is a not-for-profit organization that has been helping youth and families in McHenry County since 1975.  YSB provides prevention programs and counseling services to youth and families. YSB is located at 101 South Jefferson Street in Woodstock.  For more information visit the YSB web site at www.ysb4kids.org, or call 815.338.7360.
