Youth Service Bureau Holds Expands Psychiatric Services

YSB is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Tammy Yeun to the YSB psychiatric staff. Dr. Yeun is certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and a Fellow in Child Psychiatry at Rush Medical College. She is also a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for the Illinois Council on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

According to the Illinois Psychological Association there is a shortage of psychiatrists in Illinois, and the greatest shortage is those with special training in child and adolescent psychiatry. Even scarcer are those who accept Medicaid. They report that Illinois has only 1 child and adolescent psychiatrist for every 5,750 children who are in immediate need of mental health services.

According to the 2001 Surgeon Generals report 1 in every 5 children has a mental health disorder; and 1 in 10 children and adolescents has a serious emotional disturbance that affects their daily functioning. The report also states that only one out of every five children in need of mental health care actually receives it.

YSB works to improve the lives of children and their families by providing counseling, psychiatric care, social services and prevention programs to the community. YSB processes Medicaid, insurance, and offers affordable counseling. YSB does not have a waiting list for services.
