YSB is the fortunate recipient of a grant that was issued to the Dick Tracy Museum. The McHenry County Community Foundation awarded the Chester Gould-Dick Tracy Museum $1,500 to provide cartoon art classes to at risk children in McHenry County. The grant money was offered for use at the YSB Day Reporting Center, and the YSB managed Lakewood Resource Center.
The classes provide a good incentive for the children of the Lakewood Apartment Complex to go to the center; a safe place for them to be. Attendance at the center is up as a result of the classes. It allows the youth to explore art while drawing their favorite cartoon characters such as the Simpsons and Charlie Brown Peanuts. The class was also a huge success at the YSB Day Reporting Center where teenage youth go on a daily basis. Art work is a favorite for them all. The art work is an outlet for them to exercise their creativity while learning from a professional.
The grant covers the cost of T, known for his Dick Tracy and Brenda Star cartoon art. It also covers the cost for materials and refreshments for the young students. Lakewood Neighborhood Resource Center members can attend the classes December 14, 21, 28, and January 4, and 11, from 3:15 to 5:15. The children are thoroughly enjoying the classes.
YSB is a not-for-profit organization that has been providing counseling and prevention programs to the youth and families in McHenry County since 1975. YSB is located at 101 South Jefferson Street in Woodstock. For more information visit the YSB web site at www.ysb4kids.org, or call 815.338.7360.
