Willow Brooke (formally Lakewood Neighborhood Resource Center) Holds Volunteer Recognition Luncheon

Thursday, March 29th, 53 people attended a luncheon in their honor at Willow Brooke Resource Center in Woodstock. The kids at the center prepared a speech thanking all the volunteers that make the center such a success.

Adult and teen volunteers were recognized and Woodstock resident Allison Renaud, a Master Sergeant with the Illinois State Police, was awarded Volunteer of the Year. Allison has been volunteering her time at the center for a year and a half. She gets the kids involved with indoor and outdoor games, helps with homework, and is a positive female role model for all the kids. Teens volunteers were recognized and roses were given to each volunteer, thanks to a discount given by the Woodstock Blossom Shop.

Other donations for the event were: a tray of submarine sandwiches from Woodstock Quizinos, a financial donation from Cunat Property Management, LLC; the new owners of the apartment complex, and an anonymous donation from one of the Advisory Committee members to make sure the volunteers were treated to a very special lunch.

A special thanks to the advisory committee that meets on a monthly basis and is instrumental in assuring the continuation of the center. Advisory Committee members are as follows: Elizabeth Bean, Christine Bratek, Ana Carbajal, Janice Connelly, Sally Fyfe-Stachniak, Dena Hernandez, Sergeant Richard Johns, John Jung, Aimee Knop, Susan Krause, Keely Krueger, Police Chief Robert Lowen, George Oslovich, Andy Perez, Rebecca Stiemke, Sue Stocker, Mary Thompson, Renee Torrez, and Dave Zinnen.

Also recognized were many businesses and community organizations that make the Resource Center such a success. Some of the businesses represented were: McHenry County United Way, Woodstock Police Department, Light Center, Kraft Food - Claussen, Cunat Property Management, McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, Woodstock Recreation Department, and of course YSB for their continued administration of this successful Illinois Teen REACH site.
